DIY Sunscreen
Make your own sunscreen
Published by admin on 16-Dec-2018 11:20 (2057 reads)Who needs to use sunscreen? Hands up?
I don't like the look of the commercial sunscreens mainly because they have ingredients that to my mind sound dangerous and I've read enough to know that the more we can stay away from man made chemicals the better. Especially if we want to apply them to our bodies or worse still to our children or pets!!!!
This recipe has no nasties in it and you can apply it to your dogs nose if he needs it too. BTW you can substitute the lavender for helichrysum essential oil if you have it.
Let me know if you like it and make it.
Homemade Sunscreen
Ingredients:
10 drops lavender essential oil
1 tablespoon pomegranate oil
3/4 Cup coconut oil
2 tablespoon Zinc Oxide
2 tablespoon shea butter
Glass Jar
Directions:
Combine all ingredients except zinc oxide and essential oil in a jar.
Place a saucepan with 2 inches of water on stove over medium/low heat.
Place jar in saucepan and stir contents until ingredients start to melt.
Once all ingredients are combined, add in zinc oxide and essential oil, stir well. Store in a cool place.
Apply as required.
Pomegranate oil is great in this recipe because it has an spf of about 20 in itself, that's why it is included.
After putting this recipe together, a friend suggested that a tablespoon or two of Titanium Dioxide could be added safely and up the spf rating a lot.
Titanium Dioxide is a mineral. It is added to dog food so that dog poop dries white and powderises pretty quickly in the sun. It is a safe ingredient and I'll be adding it to my next batch to try it out.
