If I could only take one essential oil with me if I had to bug out because the SHTF then Franky would be the one I would choose.

Frankincense Essential Oil is incredible because it has been used historically, for thousands of years, way before the dawn of modern medicine. Why? Because of it wonderful properties.

Cellular protection,

Hey, even The 3 Wise Men brought Frankincense as a gift to the baby Jesus and it was thought to have been a very valuable gift.

Frankincense is a white milky sap extracted from the tree bark of the Boswellia genustrees in African and Arabian regions. The sap is allowed to harden into a gum resin. It is a tedious process to extract and steam distill the drops of resin from this tree. Because of this process, the supply that is available and the wonderful properties of this plant, Frankincense is still quite valuable and is one of the more expensive essential oils today.

If you are like Steve and I, you will no doubt have a preppers mentality. What I mean by this, is that we like to 'prep' for tough times. You never know what is around the corner. We have survived natural disasters here and we understand the need to be prepared. I have talked about this before and you will find an article around here if you want to read it. But today I want to talk about another idea. This one is about having essential oils, stocked and ready to use in your stores.

I like Essential Oils because they are natural, potent, small and easy to transport. But the biggest thing I like about them is that they all have multiple uses. For instance, Lemon Essential Oil is a great cleanser for your house, the air and your body. It is able to be used as a detox to help rid yourself of heavy metals etc that don't belong in your body. But Lemon is also great as a degreaser for dishes or even greasy parts of motors. And if it is diffused then it cleans the air. Imagine if you have been through floods and after you have cleaned up there will still be a smell lingering. Diffusing Lemon will literally clean the air in the house.

I am going to list about 10 different Essential Oils and pre made blends and why I feel they are absolute must haves for every prepper. Or even if you aren't a prepper these are the ones that should be in every home if you prefer going the natural road as we do.

Please remember when using Essential oils that you respect their potency. More is not better. You only need a drop or two usually. Did you know that 1 drop of peppermint oil is equal to 28 tea bags? That is to explain how potent they really are. Also remember to dilute them and if you are using them for kids or frail people that dilute them down even more.

I only use and recommend doTERRA Essential Oils because they are the purest on the market. I trust them for me, my family and my pets and I would never suggest that you ingest any other brand. The pre made blends I will mention here are all made by doTERRA.

If you ever happen to get Peppermint (or any other essential oil) in your eyes, wash them out with fractionated coconut oil, olive oil, or any other carrier oil. Water will only make it worse!

Foodborne Problems Beware. Oregano has properties that can counteract the effects of improper food handling practices, preparation or food storage. Combined with regular hand washing, Oregano has been known to be effective in contributing to the healthiness of foods.

Less Is More. In nearly all applications, more Oregano is not the answer. Oregano is one of the most potent essential oils—one drop is usually all you need. When used improperly, be sure to have Fractionated Coconut Oil on hand to dilute its potency if needed.

I will repeat LESS IS MORE! :: Oregano is a super potent oil and a little goes a long way. Always be sure to dilute this oil when using on the skin and wash your hands thoroughly immediately after touching it.

FLAVOR :: Use Oregano in your favourite Italian dishes to add flavour. Be aware though! A little goes a long way! You usually don't even need a full drop of Oregano. TIP: Dip a toothpick in the bottle and stir it around in the olive oil or dressing you use to cook with. You can always add more, but you can't take away!

IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOST :: When you start to feel crappy and just know there's a sickness coming on, rub Oregano into the bottoms of your feet and take 3-4 drops internally in a veggie capsule. It is not recommended to drink Oregano in your water because it has a very spicy, hot effect.

OPEN SINUSES :: When your sinus cavities are clogged and Easy Air just isn't doing the trick, boil water and add 1-2 drops of Oregano oil. Breathe in the steam and allow the Oregano to do its job of clearing your respiratory system.

DIGESTIVE + URINARY TRACT ISSUES :: Cranberry juice can help, but when you need help with cleansing the urinary tract or digestive system, Oregano taken internally in a veggie capsule works really well. Add 3-4 drops to a veggie capsule and take 3x/day for no more than 10 days.

TOPICAL OINTMENT :: For unsightly skin bumps on your hands, put a drop of Oregano on it a few times per day and watch it begin to fade away.

CLEAR TOES :: Get ready for sandal season by rubbing a drop of Oregano into your toe nail beds to help clear away any unwanted fungus or impurities.

NATURAL HOME CLEANING :: On Guard is your go-to oil for all things cleaning! Simply add 10-20 drops in a spray bottle with one part vinegar to 3 parts water and you have a natural, safe all-purpose cleaning spray for every surface of your house. The oils in On Guard also help fight off environmental threats while keeping your home clean. Win-win!

ORAL CARE :: Clove is a key component of this blend and has been used for centuries as a natural numbing agent and in oral health. The On Guard toothpaste and/or swishing OnGuard with a shot glass of water makes for healthier gums and teeth. On Guard can also help aid in tooth pain.

SCRATCHY THROAT :: Feel a sore throat coming on? Gargle with warm water, sea salt, and 3-4 drops of On Guard. Add 1-3 drops of Lemon for added benefit.

CLEAN THE AIR :: Diffuse On Guard in your home or work environment to clean and purify the air. The Clove in this blend makes it a diffuser favourite in the fall and during the holidays.

IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOST :: Massage a few drops of On Guard into the soles of your feet, along the spine, or take 5 drops internally in a veggie capsule everyday for immune system support.

HEAD TENSION RELIEF :: Put a drop of On Guard on the roof of your mouth when you feel head tension coming on. For added relief, drink a full glass of water with 1 drop of Peppermint, massage Peppermint into your temples, and massage a few drops of Frankincense into the crown of your head. Rub Lavender into your ear lobes.

BATH TUB CLEANER :: Add 5-10 drops of On Guard and Lemon to a Cup of baking soda and water until it makes a paste. Use a bathtub brush to dip into the mixture and use to scrub your bathtub. This is a wonderful alternative to chemical tub cleaners because who wants to take a bath in chemicals?

PROTECTIVE MOUTH RINSE :: Add 1-2 drops of On Guard to a shot glass of water and use as an all natural mouth rinse without the harsh ingredients that can leave a chemical burn on your gums.

CLEAN GYM EQUIPMENT :: Instead of using harmful cleaning wipes to wipe down gym equipment, use an On Guard spray or soak a roll of paper towels in water with 10-20 drops of On Guard. Store the soaked paper towels in an empty wet type container.

TRAVEL MUST :: On Guard is a travel MUST. Rub On Guard into the soles of your feet and take 3-5 drops internally in a veggie capsule (or try the On Guard Beadlets) when flying or travelling.

Seasonal Relief. Diffuse On Guard (Protective blend) anytime you are concerned about ‘what’s going around’ schools, sports arenas, churches and other crowded venues.

Get Turbo Charged. Mix a few drops of On Guard with 2 drops Lemon essential oil and honey or agave nectar in a teaspoon to soothe your throat during the winter.

Primp Your Carpets. Add 15 drops of On Guard to a cup of corn starch or baking soda. Mix, sprinkle and rake on carpet then allow it to sit for up to an hour. Then, vacuum it clean!

Rub-A-Tub Tub…In a Pleasing Way. Mix 5-6 drops with a half cup of baking soda to clean your bath tub and skip all of the harsh, bleaching chemicals.

Be Naturally Protected, All Day. Let On Guard with Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary assist in the work of immune support and maintenance. One of the most popular ways to use On Guard is to add a few drops to a Veggie Capsule and swallow. It does wonders!

Augment Your Air Filters. Diffusing is awesome, but you can also put a few drops of On Guard on your car’s cabin air filter or home air filters to obliterate dank, stale filtered air…right from the duct!

Boost your Immune System Some people amp up their Zinc or Vitamin C intake (via orange juice) every autumn. If this is you, add a few drops of On Guard to your juice for added protection.

Help For Your Speaking Docket. If you’re a ‘close talker’ or public speaker, create a protective mouth rinse by adding a drop on On Guard to a large glass of water, gargle and pep up to your delivery.

Your Mouth Will Thank You. Try swishing On Guard with a bit of water after dental work. You can also apply On Guard directly to your teeth and gums (or add a drop to your toothpaste) to soothe irritated gums. For a clean toothbrush, store it overnight in a small glass of water with 3-5 drops of the On Guard.

Got a Pull-Out Kitchen Cabinet Garbage Bin? Garbage inside a dark cabinet is an ideal breeding ground for horrific odours. When you take out the garbage, spray down your cabinet with On Guard and water. On Guard Cleaner Concentrate is also excellent for this purpose.

Eradicate That Oven Cleaner Smell. Caked on black oven gunk does not easily come off. After your oven’s self-clean cycle, spray a mix of purified water, On Guard and Lemon essential oil onto the oven interior. This will clear up all of the greasy smells as well as the smell of the oven cleaner!

Gym Machines Will Thank You. Before climbing on to that sweaty vinyl at the gym, spray it with On Guard and water. Wipe down like you mean it. Your sweaty comrades will thank you.

Be Protected On-The-Go. Travelling to the wide open corners of the world often leaves you without hand cleaning spray handy. Make your own by mixing 5 Tablespoons aloe vera gel, 4 Tablespoons water, 1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E oil and 8-10 drops of On Guard in a small squeeze bottle. Violá!

Sharing Is Caring…But Not Always! A few drops of On Guard in spray bottle with water works wonders on grimy doorknobs, hand railings and countertops.

Smelly Pipes Got Your Rinse Down? Add On Guard to your wash during the rinse cycle for all of the benefits of On Guard Blend in your laundry! It will leave your laundry extra clean and smelling great.

Tame a Tummy. Rub on your child’s tummy when they have an occasional tummy ache. Apply before bedtime and it will help them sleep soundly too! Dilute 1 drop of the Digestive blend with fractionated coconut oil and massage onto baby’s tummy when upset.

Moo Moo…Boo Boo. Try taking a Veggie Capsule filled with the Digestive blend when you have too much dairy in the belly.

A Sailor’s Little Buddy. For a happy cruise ship experience, be sure to bring along the Digestive blend. Those all-you-can eat buffets are hard to turn down and the Digestive blend will help bring some balance to your tummy!

Over the River and Through the Woods. Long road trips are good for family bonding. Don’t let those winding roads ruin the experience! Try diffusing the Digestive blend in the car from time to time to keep everyone’s stomachs calm. A great thing to have on a sailing or fishing boat too!

A Holiday Helper. After a big holiday feast, massage the Digestive blend on your stomach after big meals to help digest all holiday fare with ease.

Turbulence is on the Horizon. Flying to new destinations is fun but turbulence is often a problem for the stomach. When travelling by plane, make sure the Digestive blend goes with you.

Kick Tension & Pressure. The Digestive blend certainly helps calm an upset stomach but can also be applied to the temples to help relieve tension and sinus pressure.

A Buy Person’s Pal. When we get too busy, often our diet suffers. We opt for late night eating, faster than fast food, skipped meals, over indulgences and more. If your hectic schedule turns into hectic digestion, try the Digestive blend.

Greasy Foods, Angry Belly. Cafeteria foods are usually packed with grease that can cause discomfort. Be preventative by taking a Veggie Capsule full of several drops of the Digestive blend before you set foot in a cafeteria.

Kids Won’t Take a Capsule of the Digestive blend? To get things moving, put a drop of the Digestive blend in your child’s bath water and support healthy digestion.

A Regularity Ranger. The next time you feel stomach churn or feelings of indigestion, help yourself stay comfortable and regular by adding a drop to your water or rice or soy milk daily.

A Great Neutralizer. Use 1-2 drops in a glass of water as a mouth rinse at night if you’ve eaten a meal with strong smells, like garlic, onion, curries and more. If you like the taste of black liquorice, you will love the taste of the Digestive blend because it contains Fennel essential oil.

Carefree at the carnival. First a funnel cake and then the teacup ride. Make sure you bring the Digestive blend along so you can have fun with the rest of the family!

Take-out? Take the Digestive blend. This digestive blend will soothe even the strongest kick that your favourite local take-out can deliver.

Living off the Grid in my opinion, as I have said many many times, is all about being as self reliant as possible in ALL aspects of my life.

I like to know that we are in control of our own survival. That's why we manage our own power needs, our own water needs and as far as possible our own food needs. One of the biggest areas of surviving in life is obviously our own health. If we can't stay healthy we really can't cope with the day to day physical and emotional strains that this lifestyle can put you under.

I like to support our bodies by having an environment as clean as possible. We don't have chemicals in our water and we don't put chemicals on our food that we grow. And we avoid the synthetic chemicals that are in the pharmaceutical drugs.

I make a lot of different home remedies that work just as well, and quite often better than the prescription or over the counter medications. And they are NATURAL! When I make these home remedies they are always created with pure, organic ingredients.

I like to use Essential Oils in a lot of my home remedies because they are amazing in their ability to support the body to heal itself. They are also easily portable so that if a SHTF scenario ever did happen, they are able to be carried with us and take up very little room. We are able to have our own little medicine cupboard in a small bag that could make all the difference.

Essential Oils are also very economical. Just a drop of two is so potent that more isn't needed. Did you know, for example, that 1 drop of Peppermint Essential Oil is the same as 28 cups of Peppermint Tea? How incredible is that?

I will urge everyone I know to research the benefits of Essential Oils, to use the oils and to learn how to love the oils and what they can do for you. The more you learn, the more you will be amazed at their different qualities and how they can change your life from Awful to Awesome.

You can use Essential Oils in a number of ways. I like to diffuse them, which helps to cleanse the air in our house. It also helps your body because you are breathing in very small amounts of the oils, which in turn sends the benefits to every part of your body. Everybody that walks into my house, tell me how wonderful it smells and how calm it makes them feel.

I also like to add Essential Oils to lotions and potions that we apply to our skin. The oils will penetrate the skin and go to work quickly. I have found that small amounts of the oils can have such powerful effects on our sleep, our breathing, pain relief, etc etc. They are also very useful in creating household cleaning products that not only work a treat, but also make the house smell divine.

We also ingest some of the oils, obviously not all of them. The rule of thumb for me in this case is, if you wouldn't eat the plant that the oil comes from, then you wouldn't ingest it. For example I wouldn't eat Wintergreen, or Eucalyptus, or Tea Tree etc in our meals so I wouldn't ingest them as Essential Oils. However, I would eat Lemon, Peppermint, Oregano etc so I will ingest these ones, in tiny tiny amounts and not all the time, but I will do it.

We have proved to ourselves just how well they work and I would love you to educate yourself and start using the Essential Oils in your own life. It is never too late, or too soon to make them a part of your normal everyday life.

I only will use and recommend doTERRA essential oils because I love the company and what they are doing for so many people around the world. They are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade tested by third parties. They are honestly the best on the market and I trust them. Please contact me if you would like to start your journey with essential oils, using doTERRA, as I would love to show you how you can purchase them at wholesale prices.

My main point of this article, is to get you thinking about ways you can be self reliant in your own self care. Living Off the Grid demands that you look after yourself and finding ways to do things for yourself is the most satisfying thing I love to do. Using natural ingredients is a must in my opinion. Stop using synthetics! Take control of your own life.
